Re-imagining
energy, re-imagining spaces
Village Technologies’ home office is at 743 Queen Street East, an ecologically integrated conversion of a 120 year old building, typical of late 1800’s Toronto. By re-imagining the use of this site, four levels of live-work space were created resulting in a model for human-scaled, green residential intensification. This approach provides a vision of how Toronto can breath new life into its neighbouhoods and along its arterial roads, reinventing a 19th century streetscape for the 21st century. Open-concept design was used throughout the building resulting in a high degree of natural daylighting. Healthy material and fixture choices were made resulting in enhanced indoor air quality. Finally, an integrated mechanical and design strategy was adopted, using high levels of insulation, energy recycling systems, solar water heating and geo-exchange heating and cooling, resulting in dramatically reduced energy requirements. 743 Queen was a feature property in Doors Open Toronto 2007, has garnered significant media coverage (Toronto Star, NOW Magazine, Design Lines, Azure, CBC, TVO) and is recognized as one of the most environmentally advanced in the city. Village Technologies brings this same design philosophy to its clients which include: homeowners undertaking retrofits and building design-build homes, real estate developers, shopping mall operators, commercial property owners, non-profit organization and neighbourhood associations. Call us today to discuss how we can help you re-imagine your project.
